ForewordWhile writing this Foreword, my memory took me back to 2013, when the formation of a company was proposed to handle matters related to economical power purchase for Indian Railways (IR) as well as associated regulatoryaffairs. Before that, some of these activities were performed by other departments.The subsequent years saw significant developments for IR. The Railways started exploring methods for procuring electricity to keep the average cost of procurement at least at par with that of DISCOMs. This required transformative thinking and swift action to seek cooperation from various State Governments, DISCOMs, and regulatory commissions, as electricity is a concurrent subject. The task was challenging, as it disrupted the usual business practices for both IR and DISCOMs.On the 11th anniversary of the formation of the company, here is an attempt to chronicle this journey: what we do, what we have achieved so far, and what lies ahead. We are making efforts to achieve Net-Zero Carbon for IR by offering unique solutions to Indian Railways (IR) to meet electric traction demand.
