28The regulatory provisions binding the scheduling process are Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC) issued by the CERC and corresponding State Grid Code issued by respective State Electricity Regulatory Commissions. Both of these regulations are synchronised to carry out effective scheduling of power on intra-state (within state) as well as inter-state (regional level). The forecasting of generation is carried out by renewable generation sources, which is based on meteorological data. The renewable power generators forecast generation for next day is based on various atmospheric parameters such as the wind direction, wind velocity, ambient temperature, etc., for renewable generation based on wind. Solar insolation, cloud cover, etc., are required for renewable generation based on solar. The forecast is subject to change in environmental conditions and therefore the generation by renewable plants is primarily termed as %u201cinfirm%u201d generation. The forecasting of renewable generation is an activity requiring expertise and accordingly the states have appointed Qualified Coordinating Agency (QCA) to coordinate the forecasting and scheduling of renewable power and its revisions with the respective SLDC.REMC Ltd. has acquired expertise in providing assistance to Zonal Railways for carrying out the day-ahead scheduling of renewable and conventional power. For coordination, a state-of-the-art National Energy Management Centre (NEMC) has also been set up which is interconnected with all the State Energy Management Centres to facilitate scheduling of power, real-time revision of schedules, and to manage the traction load requirement of IR.Smart Power Scheduling for IR
